Free boilers for pensioners and elderly people are still available in 2015 under the Government ECO boiler grants scheme.
The Government-led Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) provides grant funding and subsidies for free boilers for home owners & private tenants throughout England, Scotland & Wales.
Many elderly people and pensioners can still qualify for a free boiler replacement under the scheme, which is funded by the “Big Six” UK energy companies - British Gas (Scottish Gas in Scotland), NPower, E.ON, EDF Energy, SSE and Scottish Power.
Boiler Grant Qualification
The ECO free boiler scheme runs until March 2017 and is designed to reduce harmful CO2 emissions whilst helping those who are vulnerable meet the steep cost of domestic energy bills.
The grant qualification criteria is slightly different from past Government energy grant schemes like the CERT free loft insulation & cavity wall insulation scheme. Previously all 70 year olds qualified for free home insulation if their homes met the grant criteria.
The free boiler scheme qualification criteria is as follows.
Pensioners & elderly people may qualify for a free boiler if
- You are in receipt of State Pension Credit, OR
- You are over 60 years of age and in receipt of Working Tax Credits.
The free boiler scheme is subject to qualification and is for home owners and private tenants in England, Scotland & Wales who’s existing gas central heating boiler is not the condensing gas type of boiler or who’s boiler is broken.
By replacing your existing gas boiler with an A-Rated condensing boiler you can save &100’s per year on gas bills and help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions.
